Acupuncture in pregnancy
Acupuncture in the 1st Trimester: 4-12 weeks
Acupuncture in the first trimester of pregnancy can ease many symptoms. Many people experience fatigue, bloating, breast tenderness, increased urination, headaches, constipation, nausea and vomiting.
Acupuncture has beneficial impacts to the developing embryo, in addition to reducing many first trimester symptoms. There have been several studies now that suggest that acupuncture can reduce the risk of miscarriage, especially in recurrent pregnancy loss, and increase implantation rates whether you conceived naturally or with IUI/IVF.
Acupuncture in the 2nd Trimester: Pregnancy Week 13-27
Acupuncture in the second trimester can ease the transitions that occur as you start to feel and look more pregnant.
Acupuncture is used to treat many complaints such as:
- Back pain
- Round ligament pain
- Heartburn
- Leg cramps
- Insomnia
- Stress and tension
Acupuncture in the second trimester supports your body at a time when it is beginning to shift and change. At the end of this trimester, we begin to think about acupuncture to help prepare you and your baby for birth.
Acupuncture in the 3rd Trimester: Pregnancy weeks 28-40
Acupuncture can help ease symptoms of back pain, pubic symphysis pain, edema- swelling in your hands and feet, reflux and heartburn, and insomnia.
Around 37 weeks it is a good time to begin to prepare your body for labor. Acupuncture for labor induction is done 1-2 times per week to begin to soften the cervix and promote a smooth, healthy labor and delivery.
